Egypt: a destination for all seasons

Egypt welcomes travellers all year. Here is what each season is like, so you can choose the right time and the right trip.

Spring

March to May

Warm, sunny days that are still comfortable for sightseeing in Cairo, Luxor and Aswan. Late spring can bring dusty desert winds, and Easter is busy.

Best for: Sightseeing and Nile cruises

Summer

June to August

Hot, especially in Luxor and Aswan, so visits start early in the morning. The best time for the Red Sea and the Mediterranean coast, and usually the lowest prices.

Best for: Beach and coast, good-value trips

Autumn

September to November

The heat eases and the sea stays warm. From October the Nile valley is pleasant again, making it a lovely time to sail on a cruise or dahabiya.

Best for: Nile cruises and the Red Sea

Winter

December to February

Mild, sunny days, perfect for the temples and the desert, with cool evenings in Cairo. It is the busiest season, especially at Christmas and New Year, so book early.

Best for: Pyramids, temples and the desert
